Moaning Monday Returns
I haven't posted a "Moaning Monday" post in sometime. Something today just really peeved me. And I felt I had to bitch about it.
Joshua recently brought home his weekly reading assignment. The story was "A Gingerbread House". We all know the story of the gingerbread house. Hansel and Gretel find the gingerbread house, the witch kidnaps the, fattens them up, and then just before putting them into the oven they trick her into opening the oven and push her in. Right?! Isn't that how everyone else remembers it?
Well not in this version. There is the two children named Hansel and Gretel. And they do come upon a house made of gingerbread, and there is definitely a kidnapping. But is this kidnapping for the purposes of scary witch cannibalism?! NO. There's a woman, angry at two children for taking bites out of her edible home. "You will stay here forever and rebuild my cottage!" {That you snuck bites of.} And when the children trick this boring woman into adjusting the heat on her oven, they escape out the front door while her back is turned.
So, you're telling me that our children can play video games where they beat up prostitutes, steal cars, and shoot pimps? They can see COMMERCIALS on television that show two adults practically dry humping, or movie previews with creepy freaking monsters crawling across the ceiling, but we're worried they can't handle a FAIRY tale about two children ALMOST getting eaten by a witch?!
Let's do the math. 50 years ago, we told the actual fair tales, complete with cannibalistic witches, that teaches a viable lesson about wandering away from home. Kids weren't f@#$ed up disrespectful bastards.
Today, we sugar coat a STUPID story, that TEACHES NOTHING, and our kids are rude, fat, stupid, and f@#$ed up little bastards.
Sorry for the ranting. But for pete's sake. Don't mess with old school fable and fairy tales

I am rewriting the three little pigs. The wolf is misunderstood. He has allergies.
