One Born Every Minute
Did anyone else watch this last night? I've been waiting a few weeks for it to come on, laughing at the commercials. It looked like such a good show, I think I would watch it even if I wasn't pregnant going through a baby show addiction!
Anywho, here are some thoughts:
Did anyone else feel sorry for Pam? She was the nurse to the couple that was dead set on a natural delivery. (I can't remember their names, but they had a doula, and a midwife named Liza.) To be honest, I don't think a hospital setting was the correct choice for the type of birth they were anticipating. I think they should have stayed at home, or used a birthing center. They refused any help from poor Pam, and wouldn't even listen to her. She was just trying to do her job.
There was multiple times when I thought the husband deserved a good swift kick to the throat! I think he made everything worse with his snarky remarks, "Um, can we please keep all comments positive?!". It's hard to stay positive when you're wife has been laboring for 20+ hours and refuses any help! Including monitoring their child who could very well be in distress! I am all for the natural experience, but if you're not going to use the hospital for anything other than a room to deliver, why didn't you stay home?!
Their number one mistake was treating their birth plan like it was set in stone. A birth plan is just that, a PLAN. And unfortunately, plans change, and you need to be prepared for the those changes, and welcome them. In the end they ended up using pitocin to bring their little Eleanor into the world, which was the right choice for them. The way they treated the nurse, was inexcusable. She was nothing but kind, caring, and concerned. Like I said before, she was just doing her job!
I loved the 40 year old mama having her second child in 12 months. She and her husband made me laugh. Although the ease of her labor made me INSANELY jealous! She progressed so quickly, and was able to push her baby out so easily, with what appeared to be NO PAIN. Hubby lost MAJOR points for forgetting the memory card, but at least they have the whole experience documented! {Seriously makes me want to check, and then check again so that when the time comes, all memory cards are in place! As well as batteries.}
Lastly there was Tasha and Devin. Funny they're the only names I remember. The image of Devin pushing the travel system box down the hallway in a wheelchair made me laugh. I could totally relate with Tasha and her birth experience. Her first experience was all too similar to my own first birth experience and I thought she was a trooper for trying it out a second time. Seeing how quickly things can change, and how scared she was made me thankful I never had to go through that. The babies heart started decelerating and she was rushed to the OR to deliver via c-section. Which I think is best, the baby was 9lb 12oz! An ounce bigger then my biggest.
All in all, I was really pleased with the show! I think it is a must-see for expecting parents. I think it will educate them like no other delivery show has! Not only that, but it's just an entertaining show all together. It makes you want to cry, laugh, and of course kick people in the throats.
If you missed it last night, it airs Tuesdays at 10pm, on Lifetime. I DVR'd it thinking I wouldn't be able to hack an hour long show that starts at 10, but I ended up making it. :) If you were able to catch it, what were your thoughts?
