Brief recap: Mom had A-Fib heart attack on Hailey's birthday, Hair debacle at the salon, mom found unresponsive, 911 called.
So, after receiving the text from my sister Dana stating she had found our mother unresponsive and was on the phone with 911, my other sister Katie pulled out some ninja driving skills, and the next thing I know we're heading mom's way at 90 mph. Finally after convincing Katie that A. it wouldn't be a good idea to kill us all just to get to my mom and B. no cop is going to care that we're trying to get to our mom and c. that she was definitely going to either kill us or get a REALLY bad ticket Katie finally chilled, hit the speed limit and got us home. {She still pulled major ninja passing skills.}
When we arrived the paramedics were already at work on my mom. She was alive. Breathing, heart ticking, heart rythyms were great! {Thank God} She was however unconscious, and not answering commands. Finally an EMT was able to get my mom to open her eyes. When she did, she moaned, "It's okay, I'll go home now." {She WAS home obviously.} Once they got her on the stretcher, she tried to get up once or twice. She was COMPLETELY out of it. Obviously had NO idea what was going on, and repeatedly fell back into an unconscious, and unresponsive state. The paramedics loaded her up into the ambulance and with lights flashing and siren blaring they sped to the hospital. We followed for as long as we could but were stuck at a red light that they were able to pass through.
Finally we made it to the hospital, and quickly found my mom's room. My fat pregnant self couldn't waddle fast enough to keep up with my sister, but I made it. I almost peed myself, but I made it.
At this time, they were working to get an IV in mom, and we immediately knew something wasn't right. She HATES IV's, and I've NEVER seen her receive one without a moan or complaint or two. Not only did she not respond, she didn't flinch, or even acknowledge that an IV was being done. She would open her eyes by command now, but would stare blankly at whoever was talking to her. She could also follow simple commands. "Squeeze this hand, now this one, push with this foot, pull your feet back..." etc.
Once or twice she semi "came to" and jumped up saying she had to get to Milo. My nephew who she had been watching when she had gone unconscious.
Luckily just minutes before my sister arrived to pick up her son, Dana had called mom to tell her she was on the way. Mom was absolutely fine. "Okay! See you in a little bit." She said. Just minutes later, literally Dana got a call from my mom. She answered, but the line clicked on the other end like my mom had hung up. Her phone rang again, and it was my mother on the other line, trying to say, "I passssssssssssed....outttt." Very slurred. Dana pulled into the driveway and by the time she made it into the door mom was out. Completely unconscious. Thank GOD for this. Otherwise, my 2 year old nephew would have been left alone while my mother lay on the couch, unable to come to.
