My first quilt...

After coming across this super cute, and seemingly easy tutorial from Bijou Lovely, I decided I must enlist the help of my mother and make Grayson a quilt! I showed her the tutorial and she said it was definitely something we could do. We made a list of supplies and ran to our local fabric shop {who was having a sale} to gather everything we would need. Unfortunately their fabric selection was, well, to be honest, CRAP. So we got the batting, and pins, and binding, and everything else we needed while we were there. I knew I wanted flannel on the back for the softness, and I new I wanted super cute fabrics. I was able to find the white fabric at a craft store, but still had no luck with the rest of the fabrics. So of course I took to etsy.

That's where I finally found the PERFECT fabric. Or so I thought...just before ordering I really did find the most perfect fabric. This lovely set:

It. Was. PERFECT! I was super excited about the quilt now, even more so after the fabric came! But, there's always a but, I couldn't find the right flannel for the back. I wanted white with gray dots. I didn't think that was too much to ask for. But for some reason I couldn't find it. FINALLY, as luck would have it, I stumbled across EXACTLY what I was looking for from fabric.com. It was even by the same designer as the rest of the fabric. It was pricey, but at this point I didn't care.

I was just super excited to finally be able to get started. And get started is what we did!

Eeeeeeeeeee!

We started {HERE}, made it to here:

1 starting the thread 2 threading the needle 3 getting ready 4 picking the perfect stitch 5 eek the first stitch! 6 pinning the layers 7 finishing the pinning

And finished here:

I am head over heels in love with this quilt. It is perfection to me. Yea, there's a LOT wrong with it. A lot. But I MADE IT! I spent almost a whole week of super special quality time with my mom making it. And every imperfection is MY imperfection and just makes this blanket even more special to me. I want to make 3 more. One for each kiddo. I wish I had done this forever ago. I had no idea how much I would love it! I hope Grayson loves and cherishes this blanket as much as I will over these next few years. It already holds memories that I cherish, and I can only imagine how many more memories will be made...
